Costa del Sol
With over 300 days of sunshine a year, good weather is almost guaranteed. Andalusia’s sunny coast, the Costa del Sol, offers numerous activities with its mountainous hinterland. There is plenty to discover for sports enthusiasts and culture lovers alike.
Cycling and hiking
If you like to get active, you can grab a rental bike from the Ecovilla and explore the mountainous hinterland or the flatter coastal area. There are also great hiking trails along nearby rivers such as the Rio Chillar or the Rio Higueron – cooling off included! And if you want to go up high, you can climb the 1500m-high Cielo or the 2000m-high Maroma.
Water sports
For water sports enthusiasts, the region around Nerja offers beautiful diving spots. Kitesurfers can let off steam in the wild waters near Tarifa, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic. On the way there, you can pay a visit to the monkeys of Gibraltar and catch a glimpse of Africa. The two continents are separated by just 14 km at the strait.
Malaga
Just around the corner and particularly beautiful is the lively old town of Málaga. In the birthplace of Picasso, everything from art to cuisine is catered for. The Picasso Museum, the Pompedou Center and the Carmen Thyssen Museum are a must-see for art lovers. The best view of the city is from the Castillo del Gibralfaro, which towers over the stately Alcazaba. The marble-tiled pedestrian zone or the almost sophisticated harbor promenade are perfect for a stroll through the city. And for a typical local snack, head to “El Pimpi”, probably Malaga’s best-known tapas bar.
Into the mountains
In El Chorro, one of the largest climbing areas in Europe, both real climbers and hikers get their money’s worth. The Caminito del Rey promises plenty of adventure – a former royal path that runs down from the mountains into the valley and has now been converted into a spectacular hiking trail.
Culture
The stately cities of Andalusia have plenty to offer culture lovers: Walk in the footsteps of the Moorish kings through the gardens of the Alhambra in Granada, admire the unique architecture of the Mezquita in Córdoba, eat delicious tapas to the sounds of flamenco in Seville or marvel at the gorge of Ronda, as the writer Ernest Hemingway did.
